Since establishing itself at Maridalsveien 3 in 2005, ROM for Art and Architecture has proudly built interdisciplinary networks between artists, architects, and academics, with a focus on spatial thinking. With roots in Galleri ROM (est. 1987) and the Institute of Spatial Art (est. 1989), we have fostered a vibrant dialogue between art and architecture for nearly forty years. The anniversary of our move to Maridalsveien marks a significant milestone, where we reflect on our past while also looking ahead to our future role.
In 2024, we engaged the architectural office SPEED (Espen Heggertveit and Eirik Stokke-Mikalsen) to collect fragments of our history: documents, images, posters, and oral accounts that shed light on the experimental spirit of our practice. The result is a textual overview that now forms the basis for a mini-exhibition during the anniversary celebration.
The exhibition is by no means intended as a complete chronological presentation, but rather as part of the exploration and documentation of our nearly forty-year-long history. We hope these glimpses of photographs, posters, and text fragments will inspire new conversations and stories—so that the mini-exhibition is not only a return to the past, but just as much a window to the future.
