Romlig kritikk

Writing workshops and critique debates
Fall 2021

Does good architecture require good criticism? If so, what should this criticism look like? Romlig kritikk is a platform for architectural criticism aimed at expanding and strengthening the scope and quality of architectural criticism!

Three writing workshops and critique debates in three different cities in the fall of 2021 constitute the initial project that aims to develop a gathering place and forum for architectural criticism and architectural critics. Through this initiative, we seek to establish a foundation for further development of architectural criticism.

Through various initiatives, Romlig kritikk aims to promote, gather, develop, discuss, produce, and disseminate architectural criticism. The criticism should encompass architecture in a broad sense, including urban planning, urban design, public spaces, landscape architecture, and place-making. It builds upon the issues raised in the Scandinavian collaborative exhibition Jävla Kritiker! (Damn Critic!). Romlig kritikk is initiated and operated by architect and writer Astrid Fadnes and ROM, and is developed in collaboration with Gjertrud Steinsvåg (Managing and Artistic Director at ROM), Anders Rubing (architect, critic, and curator for Jävla Kritiker!), and Ingrid Halland (architectural and design historian, critic, and responsible editor for ROM forlag). The project is supported by the Norwegian Arts Council (Kulturrådet).
