During the spring and fall of 2023, architecture workshops will be held at Bøler Library for individuals aged 10-14. This library was designed by the world-renowned Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn, known for his clean expression, honesty to materials, and keen sense of natural light incorporation. Throughout this day, you can explore how the architectural elements of the building can be altered and combined in new ways to create your own architecture. The workshop provides insight and knowledge into what young individuals focus on when designing their own architecture and how they will influence the design of the architecture of Bøler Library.

The title of the workshop, "Particularities," refers to specific or distinctive situations in architecture. By this, we mean architecture that possesses a uniqueness that provides identity and belonging to a place in relation to its surroundings.

Participants will select their own architectural components from a collection of scaled-down elements from the building. These components can be modified in shape, combined in new ways, and given new surface treatments. Based on this building kit, the library takes on a new form. The models become new fragments of Fehn's architecture, seen from a fresh perspective. We offer assistance and guidance along the way, focusing on the themes of light, form, surface, and encounters – four fundamental aspects that describe how architecture operates in the world.

Participants learn about fundamental architecture by rearranging Bøler Library in novel ways. What gives this architecture its character and expression? How are the elements interconnected? How does the new architecture relate to Bøler as a place and Fehn as an architect? By directing attention to Bøler Library as an architectural solution from 50 years ago, the workshop paints a picture of how the youth perceive the building and how they would alter it. Together, through the workshop, we will gain a fresh understanding of Fehn's architecture.

Atelier Particular operates within architecture and art. In our studio, we focus on the composition between materials, colors, shapes, and the interaction between elements. We are concerned with natural light, how it enters a space and undergoes constant change throughout the day and seasons. Through distinctive details, we aim to create architecture that provides a sense of belonging to our constructed surroundings. Our vision is to craft welcoming spaces and beautiful environments where architecture possesses a strong presence, distinctiveness, and character.

Bøler bibliotek is a hub for enriching experiences and dissemination for both young and old. Designed by Sverre Fehn and erected in 1972, the building is an attraction for tourists and architecture students alike.

Organized by ROM UNG, Atelier Particular, and Deichman Bøler, with support from Kulturrådet and Sparebankstiftelsen.
